How it all began.....
It’s funny really what actually attracted me to want to know knitting. It started off with a Korean drama, whereby there is this girl in the drama making this hand knitted sweat shirt for her boyfriend which later it turns out to be a memorable present to him. Then it dawn on me that won’t it be nice to be able to make and create something. Don’t ask me why I had that idea but I just did. So the next day I began to do some searching online which lead me to the famous youtube. Surprisingly, youtube has some really good videos that guides or rather teaches one how to go about knitting from the beginning. Kind of like knitting 101, and one can really find a lot of helps and tips there.
So after browsing some of the clips on youtube my next step would be to get the things I needed. Having no clue as to where to get the things needed I rang up my cousin whom I know she has experience in sourcing for shop that sells knitting and beading stuff. So she points me to this place at Chinatown complex, the Golden Dragon, it is one of the go to place for all sorts of craft stuffs.
Hence I went searching for Golden Dragon which turns out to be a really decent store parked at a corner in the complex. And yeah I was the only guy customer there, not knowing what I needed to get I asked one of the sales auntie there. After telling her that I am new to knitting she suggested that I get a 3.75 size needle coupled with 2 balls of yarns to start off. And so I did.
After I got home, I began to start practicing with the video I got from youtube. Astonishingly, it turns out pretty easy. There are just these few basic steps and you are off creating wonders with the needles and yarn threads.
Basic steps include:
Cast On – Basically it refers to the amount of loops you wanted to create for your project kind of like the foundation of the project
Knit stitch – Something that you will need and it is the most basic stitch for all projects
Purl Stitch – It is somewhat the opposite of the knit stitch and it takes a little practice to familiarize with but it is really not that hard.
Cast Off – The final process of completing your project which always makes me feel excited cause soon I will be able to wear what I have created.
Yeah and so I start to practice with these four steps and created some little pieces of square knit cloth. I am pretty amazed with myself being able to create something from my own hand. Feels really rewarding…
